Digital Rack Management at Adamer Glas: €30,000 in Annual Savings and 15% Faster Returns with BOX ID

Transport racks are an essential part of production and delivery at Adamer Glas. Once the racks were located at customer sites or other locations, however, the company lacked a reliable overview of their current locations. With the BOX ID system, the glass manufacturer has digitalized its rack management and achieved measurable improvements. More than 400 transport racks are now managed transparently, racks return 15% faster, and the reduced need for new racks saves around €30,000 per year.

Excel spreadsheets made rack management more difficult

Christian Adamer GmbH processes fire-resistant glass, safety glass, curved glass and profiled glass, among other products. Special racks are required for safe transportation and circulate between the company’s premises, customers and other locations. They were previously managed using Excel spreadsheets, making current locations, inventory levels and responsibilities difficult to track without significant manual effort. Time spent searching, delayed returns and missing racks complicated logistics and shipping planning.

Adamer Glas therefore needed a solution that digitally records existing transport racks and combines booking information with geographic location data. Its priorities were higher availability, lower shrinkage and automated processes. The full success story on digital rack management at Adamer Glas provides an overview of the project results.

Existing transport racks retrofitted for digital tracking

Adamer Glas retrofitted more than 400 racks with cost-effective IoT trackers. The devices enable Europe-wide location tracking via cellular networks and can be installed quickly on the existing fleet.

All location data is consolidated in the cloud-based BOX ID platform. Adamer Glas can manage its rack fleet from anywhere and compare booking data with the recorded geographic positions. This provides logistics and production with a shared database for locating racks faster, coordinating returns and assessing the status of the fleet.

15% faster returns increase availability

Digital transparency has significantly accelerated rack circulation. Racks now return around 15% faster, making them available sooner for production and delivery. This helps prevent bottlenecks while reducing the need for additional racks.

The reduced need for new racks results in annual savings of around €30,000. Digital tracking also reduces administrative effort and deters theft and unauthorized use. Employees spend less time searching, coordinating and maintaining data manually, allowing them to focus more closely on their core tasks.

“The cooperation with BOX ID was solution-oriented and on eye level from the very beginning. Thanks to the tracking solution, we were able to massively minimize costs in this area within a year, while at the same time becoming noticeably more productive in shipping,” says Peter Wolf, CEO of Adamer Glas.

Transparent rack circulation becomes an economic lever

The project demonstrates how existing rack fleets can be digitalized easily and with minimal effort. The combination of IoT tracking and a centralized data platform provides a reliable basis for decisions regarding returns, availability and new purchases. For companies in glass and window construction, digital rack management becomes a concrete lever for lower costs, reduced capital tied up and more efficient processes. Together with BOX ID, Adamer Glas has successfully moved the management of its rack fleet from Excel into a transparent, data-driven process. The measurable results show that better location data has a direct impact on return times, availability and profitability.

GESAid unlocks additional economic potential in digital rack management

The successful project at Adamer Glas demonstrates the economic potential of digital rack management. With GESAid, BOX ID and Gestellpool Europe extend the possibilities of digital rack management through a comprehensive industry-wide solution. It combines the BOX ID platform with cost-efficient trackers, stationary and mobile data capture points, established rack management processes, long-standing industry experience and a strong network. As the acquisition cost of this technology is currently only around one-third of comparable systems, digitalizing large rack fleets becomes even more cost-effective. Further information is available in the English overview of the GESAid solution for digital rack management.
